How to Declare a Major or Minor

DECLARING A MAJOR

There are several steps to declaring a major in Religious Studies or in Religion and Health Care Track. There’s the routine but necessary matter of filing the formal paperwork with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Religious Studies. More important to charting your course and exploring options in Religious Studies is meeting first with the undergraduate advisor, Dr Newell, and then with the department chair, Professor David Kling.  To declare a major:

  1. Fill-out the Advising Form for Majors in Religious Studies  and complete the Declaration of Major (or Change of Major) form  for the College of Arts and Sciences.
  2. Request a meeting with the Undergraduate Student Advisor, Dr Newell via email (clnewell@miami.edu). Be prepared to discuss your academic interests, potential areas of concentration in Religious Studies, and to ask any questions you may have about the major (for example, specific requirements, the approach of the faculty toward religions, etc.).
  3. Request a meeting via email (dkling@miami.edu) with Department Chair, Professor Kling, to review and sign your Advising Form.
